A Love Note
This weekend at Headquarters, we served a woman from Baltimore whose friend from Vermont brings her our halvah every time she visits. We also welcomed a group from Los Angeles, in town for a wedding, who ended up sending all of their friends and family into the shop for creemees and halvah. And today, a man came in, made a beeline for the shelf of bars, and told us he’d first discovered our halvah in Hawaii, but usually buys it in Maine.
And that’s just a handful of the wonderful people from across the country that we get to chat with. I haven’t even mentioned our most loyal Vermonters, who regularly drive over an hour from places like Plainfield, St. Albans, and Rutland (to name just a few off the top of my head) to stock up on bars and pints, and indulge in a Lucid Dream Sundae.
All this to say: thank you. We are honored, amazed, delighted, and pinching ourselves a bit. To see how many wonderful people are as devoted to eating and gifting our halvah as we are to creating it, fills our hearts and makes those 14-hour days in the hot kitchen feel so deeply rewarding. Folks have described their halvah imbued creemees as "a light in a sea of darkness", "soul healing", and many variations on "the best we've ever had". We have made it a practice, that to the best of our ability, we only discuss positive topics, and listen to uplifting music while we make your halvah. Maybe there's really something to that. Maybe food isn't just a product of its ingredients, but also its environment, and the intention in which it was created.
We're watching the light shift in our beautiful shop window, cooler weather is arriving, and our hours at Holy Halvah Headquarters are changing to honor a slower pace (we're heading into holiday season as a retailer/wholesaler... who am I kidding).
We'll be serving maple or black sesame creemees, topped with halvah and warm tahini drizzle through September (at least). You can also pick up NoirBars, GoldBars, and bulk seconds during open hours. I'm dreaming up a super fun Halloween celebration at the shop, and have a few great pop-up ideas for the Holidays and beyond.
You may have noticed our beautiful 4 month old German Shepherd, Misha, learning how to be the best shop dog with the most refined manners. His favorite treat is fresh whipped cream, and his favorite friend is Nick the mailman. You can help us by resisting the urge to say hello, so that he learns not to jump and bark at all of the exciting people!
